Gregg Schigiel Inks Deal With Image Comics

PIX (GalleyCat)Gregg Schigiel has signed a deal with Image Comics. In the past, he has worked on the SpongeBob comic series at Marvel. For this new project, Schigiel intends to create a new children’s comic series entitled Pix. The first volume will be released on February 22. Here’s more from the press release: “Pix is a superhero—but she also believes herself to be a fairy and a princess to boot. And if that weren’t enough for one teen to juggle, in PIX, VOL. 1 she’s got attacking electronics, secret crushes, a magic 8-ball monster, cell service issues, a dragon war, a bad date, worried moms, a furtive frog, and a malevolent monkey, all jockeying for her attention.”

The New York Public Library Takes On the Mannequin Challenge: VIDEO

The New York Public Library took on an internet challenge called the “mannequin challenge.” The video features a team of employees frozen in place inside the Rose Main Reading Room. Here’s more from The New York Times: “In this latest viral video genre, groups of people are gathering and freezing themselves in place, often in elaborate poses and scenarios, as one camera-toting person walks through the scene to zoom in on the details. As is often the case, teenagers are leading the way.” The piece contains references to movies that were shot at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building including Ghost Busters and Sex & The City. Andy LeCount to Join HarperCollins

0408903Andy LeCount will begin his new role as vice president, director of sales for general books at HarperCollins on December 29. In the new position, LeCount will lead overall sales for the adult hardcover and trade paperback imprints. In addition, he will supervise the adult sales teams for Barnes & Noble and Amazon. LeCount comes to HarperCollins from the Hachette Book Group (HBG), where he was serving as executive director of chain stores. In that role, he oversaw sales for Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million for all adult imprints and served as the primary liaison between the sales and publishing teams at Little, Brown and Company. LeCount has also worked for Macmillan, Rodale, BN.com, Tor and Encore Books. Josh Marwell, president of sales at HarperCollins, announced the news in a memo to staffers. “We are thrilled to have him as part of our team,” he wrote.

Two Archie Comics Stories to be Featured in the Love is Love Book

Love is Love Graphic Novel (GalleyCat)Archie Comics has come on board to contribute two pieces to the Love is Love graphic novel anthologyRoberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Stephen Byrne, and Dan Parent worked together to create two stories that star Kevin Keller, Archie Andrews, and several other characters from the Riverdale crew. This book honors those who suffered from the tragic shooting at Orlando’s Pulse Nightclub in June 2016. IDW Publishing and DC Entertainment have set the release date on December 28. Here’s more from the press release: “The Love is Love collection, curated by writer Marc Andreyko, features artwork from dozens of collaborators in the comic book industry designed to send a powerful message of support to the victims, survivors, and their families. All materials for the project have been donated and all proceeds will go directly to the families and victims via Equality Florida.”

A New World Gets Explored in The Magicians Trailer

Syfy has unleashed the second trailer for The Magicians. The story for this television adaptation comes from Lev Grossman’s popular fantasy trilogy. Here’s more from Entertainment Weekly: “As fans learned last season, the world of Fillory isn’t bound to the books Quentin (Jason Ralph) loves to read. He’s also not the only one obsessed with it: The Beast was looking for any and all portals in and out.” The video embedded above offers glimpses of cast members Olivia Taylor Dudley, Summer Bishil, and Hale Appleman. The initial fundraising goal was set at $1,000. Follow this link to download a free digital copy of Charles Dickens’ classic novel. Here’s more from the Kickstarter web page: “This project is simple: I’m replacing each instance of Ebenezer and/or Scrooge in Dickens’ original text with Donald and/or Trump. That’s it. The creatives behind the Draw My Life YouTube channel have created a new video on Hermione Granger. J.K. Rowling’s beloved character has starred in seven books, eight movies, and one play. The video embedded above features a short biography on the famed muggle-born witch. This piece has drawn more than 223,000 views on YouTube.
